Section 84-23.1 of the North Carolina General Act requires all prepaid plans registered with the North Carolina State Bar Association to submit their plan information to the North Carolina Department of Insurance to determine whether the prepaid plan should be regulated by the North Carolina Department of Insurance. The North Carolina State Bar Association is responsible for registering prepaid legal assistance plans (“prepaid plans”) in North Carolina. A prepaid plan must be registered with the North Carolina State Bar before it can operate in North Carolina and before a North Carolina licensed attorney can provide legal services to prepaid plan participants. The Prepaid Plan Advisor reviews the registration documents for the annual renewal of prepaid plans to determine if all annual registration information and annual registration fees have been received.
